THE Grafton Women’s 10’s side indicated they will once again be a force in the Mid North Coast competition in 2024 with a comprehensive 27-5 win over Casino at the Hay Street Rugby Fields on Saturday.

It may have only been a trial game and a chance to clear out the cobwebs, but last year’s grand finalists showed they are massive contenders to take out this season’s title.

With captain Tamar McHugh steering the team around the paddock and Libby Murphy playing a dominant role up front, Grafton were in control for most of the match.

Grafton scored five-tries to one against a Casino side who refused to lay down.

Carla Dougherty made a successful return to rugby producing her trademark try-saving cover defence while newcomer Kristen Cotten picked up the Players Player award on debut with an impressive all-round game.

Try scorers for Grafton were Tamar and Yuri McHugh, Clare Gardner, Esther Barker and Jaide McGowan
