THE Grafton Women’s 10s side continued their march towards a minor-premiership with a resounding 45-5 victory over Port Pirates on Saturday.

Playing on a sodden Hay Street Rugby Field, Grafton ran in nine-tries-to-one in a clinical performance.

Winger Carla Dougherty bagged four tries out wide while representative back Yuri Fuller picked up a double.

Signs were ominous from the opening whistle as Grafton applied the pressure racing out to a 20-nil lead after just 15-minutes.

Points continued to flow before the break with Grafton holding a commanding 30-nil lead.

There is no doubting Grafton’s ability to score points, however it was their relentless defence that drew praise from the coaching staff.

The home side tackled in numbers suffocating the opposition with “in-your-face” defence.

The only blight on Grafton’s performance was their inability to kick conversions which could have seen the scoreline blowout even further.

GRAFTON: 45 (TRIES: Carla Dougherty 4, Yuri Fuller 2, Angie McDermott, Kristen Cotton, Anaseini Kobukobus.) PIRATES 5
