THERE was absolute mayhem in the dying stages of Saturday’s reserve grade final which saw the home side, Hastings Vikings, hold on for a nail-biting 17-10 win over the Grafton Redmen.
With ten minutes left on the clock, Grafton peppered Vikings try-line but came away with zero points.
Grafton were held up on two occasions, however it was the intentional infringements from Hastings which saw four of their players yellow-carded.
Grafton were desperately unlucky not to receive a penalty try which could have sent the game into extra time.
The Redmen certainly had their chances to score out wide but refused to spread the ball when the opposition were short on numbers.
For Grafton, Jacob Black was outstanding. The rangy second-rower proved a handful in attack throughout the game, and his punishing defence was also a highlight.
