In 1969, Upper Fischer Park (now known as Ellem Oval), became home base for training and game day.
A move to Rodeo Park, South Grafton was made in 1971 after $1000 was spent to upgrade facilities. The Club called Rodeo Park home until our present ground and clubhouse were completed.

Being the inaugural year (1969) for the Far North Coast Rugby Union, Grafton were one of four teams in a single grade competition.

Grafton soon became premiership favourites with the grand final held at McKittrick Park South Grafton. Grafton were a fast, skilful side but unfortunately fell short against a far more experienced Lismore Brothers side 13-0.

At the awards presentation night captain Stan Pitkin picked up the Club’s best and fairest award.

After three seasons, the Club expanded its playing strength to support two grades with both grades being very competitive. First grade featured in the 1969 and 1976 grand finals while second grade featured in the decider in 1972, 73 and 76.

Unfortunately for the Club there was little silverware to showcase in the trophy cabinet.

Grafton continued to grow and prosper during the 70s with a highlight being the 1976 grand final against Coffs Harbour who ran out victors 12-0 in a gruelling encounter.
