Redmen Women continue to rack up points
GRAFTON Redmen forward Jesyka Boyle produced her finest performance in Redmen colours on Saturday leading her side to an emphatic 68-0 victory over an inexperienced SCU Marlins.
Boyle’s tireless ball carrying kept her side on the front foot throughout the match while once again, Grafton’s point-scoring machine Yuri Fuller bagged a hat-trick and was a constant threat from the back.
Grafton were slow out of the blocks, however, once they clicked into over-drive points flowed, and by halftime the game was dead and buried as Grafton held a commanding 32-0 lead.
Grafton continued to pour on the tries after the break with their second-half onslaught realising 36-points.
Grafton captain/coach Tamar McHugh was satisfied with her side’s 12-tries-to-nil victory but added the most pleasing aspect was their ability to stick to the game plan.
“Leading into the match we wanted to focus on sticking to our structure and show more discipline, and I thought we did that today,” McHugh said after the match.
“We didn’t spread the ball early and remained patient until we created space for our backs, and a lot of credit must go to our forwards.”
Grafton’s kicking game in open play was simply superb catching the home sides defence napping which led to three second half tries.
“We wanted to add a new dimension to our game by kicking behind the opposition defensive line and it worked out today,” McHugh said.
“Mikey Wright helped us out with our kicking in general play at training on Thursday, so it has been something we have been working on.”
When asked if racking up huge scores each week was becoming monotonous, McHugh was quick to reply.
“No way, not at all…you are only as good as your last game,” she said.
